Cargo handling in the Baltic Eastern Coast Seaports increased just by 0.2% in January-August

In PRIMORSK SEAPORT totally 42 589.5 thou. tn. of oil and oil products were handled, i.e. –16.5% or by –8 428.7 thou. tn. less comparing with the period January-August 2012. Oil and oil products are the only cargoes of Primorsk Seaport. Crude oil handled within the analysed period – 36 395.8 thou. tn., oil products – 6 193.7 thou. tn.
In SANKT PETERBURG SEAPORT totally 37 537.6 thou. tn. of cargoes were handled, the change made –2.3% or by –878.4 thou. tn. less comparing with the analysed period of 2012. 41.2% of the Seaport cargoes made containerised cargoes, 22.7% – oil products, 10.2% – metals, 11.6 bulk cargoes – fertilizers, coal and grain. Turnover of general cargoes decreased, the change made –11.0% or –1052.8 thou. tn., including containerised cargoes (-56.4 thou. tn. or –0.4%), metal waste (-221.0 thou. tn. or –22.2%), non-ferrous metals (-656.7 thou. tn. or –20.0%). The change of liquid cargoes made –2.0% or –195.8 thou. tn. Loaded oil products 8 540.2 thou. tn., the change made –0.4% or –29.4 thou. tn. Volume of bulk and dry cargoes significantly increased, i.e. +7.0% or +273.1 thou. tn. Increase of fertilizer cargoes (handled 3 710.6 thou. tn., the change made +10.9% or +364.5 thou. tn.) and frozen cargoes (handled 1 423.3 thou. tn., the change made +13.8% or +172.6 thou. tn.).
In UST LUGOS SEAPORT totally 40 051.9 thou. tn. of cargoes were handled, the change made +41.9% or +11 841.9 thou. tn. The major part of the Seaport load consists of coal (handled 11 881.3 thou. tn., the change made +14.1% or 1 472.0 thou. tn.) and crude oil and oil products (handled 24 839.5 thou. tn., the change made +65.4% or 9 822.8 thou. tn.). Quick load increase was predetermined by the increase of coal and oil product load. Decrease of general cargo load, handled 1 638.3 thou. tn., the change made –7.0% or –127.7 thou. tn. Significant decrease of metal load (handled 297.6 thou. tn., the change made –66.9% or –600.6 thou. tn.).
In VYSOCK SEAPORT totally 10 973.4 thou. tn. of cargoes were handled, the change made +29.1% or +2 472.6 thou. tn. Only two types of cargoes are handled in this Seaport. The major load of the Seaport makes oil products –71.2%, 7 816.7 thou. tn. of oil products were handled during the analysed period, i.e. +17.0% or 1 139,8 thou. tn. Coal load made 3 156.7 thou. tn., the change made +74.0% or +1 341.1 thou. tn. Coal load makes 28.8% of the Seaport load.
In KALININGRAD SEAPORT totally 9 303.6 thou. tn. Of cargoes were handled, the change made +10.9% or by +921.9 thou. tn. more than in January-August of 2012. The major part of load of this Seaport make oil products (handled 2 690.6 thou. tn., the change made –10,7% or –321.1 thou. tn.) and metals (handled 1 054.0 thou. tn., the change made +35.6% or +276.6 thou. tn.). Decrease of grain (handled 396.4 thou. tn., the change made –39.4% or –257.2 thou. tn.) and containerised cargo load (handled 845.2 thou. tn., the change made –16.8% or –170.6 thou. tn.).
The total throughput of Klaipėda Port and in Būtingė terminal within the period of January – August of 2013 totalled 28.4 mln. tn. of seaborne cargo, the total change of cargo handling turnover was +1.1%, if to compare with the corresponding period of 2012. The cargo handling turnover in Klaipėda Port within the analysed period reached 22.3 mln. tn., the year-on-year change was –2.7% or –620.3 thous. tn., meanwhile 6.0 mln. tn. of cargo were handled at Butingės terminal, the year-on-year change being +18.3% or +937.7 thous tn.
Comparing with the corresponding period of 2012 the most significant growth of cargo handling volumes in January – August of 2013 in Klaipėda Seaport and Būtingė terminal was reached due to the increased handling rates of liquid cargoes (the growth reached 7.2% comparing with the corresponding period of 2012), the highest rates of cargo handling were recorded in the handling turnover of crude oil (+18.3% or +937.7 thou. tn.).
In terms of other cargo groups the handling volumes of dry and bulk cargo marked the increase in Klaipėda Seaport made 8 727.5 thou. tn., i.e. – 3.2%, less than in corresponding period of 2012. The significant growth of handling rates of cargoes attributed to this cargo group has been recorded in handling of agriculture products (+73.5% or +647.6 thou. tn.), raw and processed minerals and construction materials (+19.6% or +228.1 thou. tn.). Decrease in the group of dry and bulk cargoes was observed in the following fields: natural and chemical fertilizers (-17.1% or 964.0 thou. tn.). Decrease of general cargo volumes (-3.4%) was observed in Klaipėda Seaport from the beginning of the year. In total 7 039.5 thou. tn. of such cargoes were handled. Decrease in the group of general cargoes was observed in the following fields: metal and steel products, metal structures (-36.2% or –80.8 thou. tn.), packaged natural and chemical fertilizers (-14.6% or –50.3 thou. tn.), wood and forestry products (-11.8% or –43.7 thou. tn.). The handling turnover of containerised cargoes in terms of TEU increased in January – August of 2013 and reached 261 735 TEU (+4.7% or +11 688 TEU).
4 431 vessels were reported to call Klaipėda Seaport and Būtingė terminal in January – August of 2013. 60 vessels (+17.6% or by 9 vessels more comparing with the period January-August 2012) moored at Būtingė terminal. Klaipėda Seaport received 4 371 vessels (-2.3% or –105 vessels comparing with the corresponding period of 2012).
The number of passengers within the analysed period was 208 065, i.e. –16.1% or by 39 857 passengers less comparing with the corresponding period of the previous year.
In TALLINN SEAPORT totally 19 368.2 thou. tn. handled, the change made –4.1% or –822.9 thou. tn. Quick increase of wooden cargoes (handled 214.4 thou. tn., the change made +74.2% or +91.3 thou. tn.), wooden pellets (handled 69.4 thou. tn., the change made +56.1% or +24.9 thou. tn.) and grain cargoes (handled 46.2 thou. tn., the change made +17.3% or +6.8 thou. tn.).
Mainly in Tallinn Seaport oil products are handled (13 407.3 thou. tn., the change made +4.1% or +523.9 thou. tn.), ro-ro cargoes (handled 2 413.4 thou. tn., the change made –7.6% or –197.5 thou. tn.) and fertilizers (handled 1 125.6, the change made –24.0% or –355.4 thou. tn.).
Cargo flows has also decreased – metal waste (handled 267.9 thou. tn., the change made –47.7% or –244.4 thou. tn.), ferrous materials (handled 50.2 thou. tn., the change made –66.7% or –100.3 thou. tn.), food products (handled 40.3 thou. tn., the change made –25.3% or –13.7 thou. tn.), break stone (handled 384.5 thou. tn., the change made –20.6% or –99,9 thou. tn.) and coal (12.1 thou. tn. handled, the change made –69.0% or –26.9 thou. tn.).
Passengers. This year Tallinn Seaport served 6 406.7 thou. passengers, the change made +4.1% or +252.5 thou. passengers.
Vessels. 4 706 vessels were reported to call Tallinn Seaport, i.e. –204 vessels or by 4.2% less, comparing with the analysed period of 2012.
In RIGA PORT totally 23 350.4 thou. tn. of cargoes were handled, the change made –5.7% or – 1 404.8 thou. tn. Increase of metal waste, metal, ferroalloy load, handled 667.9 thou. tn., the change made +55.9% or 239.6 thou. tn., ore load, handled 265.1 thou. tn., the change +182.3% or 171.2 thou. tn., peat load, handled 92.7 thou.tn., the change made +34.2% or 23.6 thou. tn., metals (general cargo), handled 79.4 thou. tn., the change made +281.7% or 58.6 thou. tn., grain and grain products (general cargo), handled 11.2 thou. tn., the change made +119.6 % or 6.1 thou. tn. Ro-ro cargoes handled in terms of tonnage, handled 402.8 thou. tn., the change made +4.0% or 15.5 thou. tn.
Decrease of oil products, handled 5 004.5 thou. tn., the change made –11.7% or –664.5 thou. tn., coal, handled 9 102.6 thou. tn., the change made –8.9% or –888.3 thou. tn., grain and grain products (bulk cargo), handled 96.0 thou. tn., the change made –79.6% or –374.6 thou. tn., constructional materials, handled 102.3 thou. tn., the change made –22.8% or –30.2 thou. tn., fish and fishery products, handled 2.0 thou. tn., the change made –54.5% or –2.4 thou. tn.
Passengers. 600 558 passengers visited Riga Seaport, the change +0.4% or +2 234 passengers.
In VENTSPILS PORT totally 20 721.0 thou. tn. of cargoes were handled, the change made –5.0%, –1 100.0 thou. tn. Quick increase of ore load. In January-August 2013 563.0 thou. tn., +93% or 272.0 thou. tn. of ore was handled. Oil products, handled 11 682.0 thou. tn., the change made +1.0% or +103.0 thou. tn. Increase of break stone load, handled 109.0 thou. tn., the change 6.0% or +56.0 thou. tn. The major part of load of this Seaport make oil products (56.4%) and coal (25.6%).
Within January-August 2013 decreased: coal load, handled 5 300.0 thou. tn., the change made –10.6% or –628.0 thou. tn., fertilizers (handled 854,0 thou. tn., the change made -574.0 thou. tn. or –40.2%), wood load, handled 388.0 thou. tn., the change –11.2% or –49.0 thou. tn. There was also decrease of grains 132.0 thou. tn., the change made –137.5% or –220.0 thou. tn.
Passengers. The number of passengers in Ventspils Seaport
was 43 479, the change made
+0.2% or +104 passengers.
Vessels. Totally 1 206 vessels were served, the change made –2.5% or –31 vessel.
In LIEPAJA PORT totally 3 128.5 cargoes were handled, the change made –32.4% or –1 497.0 thou. tn. The major load of the Seaport make grains (33%), the turnover of grains within the period of January-August 2013 was 1036.6 thou. tn., the change made –38.5% or – 647.8 thou. tn.
Increase of wooden chips, handled 114.9 thou. tn. the change made 32.8% or 28.4 thou. tn., crude oil load, handled 99.6 thou. tn., the change made +16.4% or 14.0 thou. tn., chemical cargo load (liquid cargo), handled 63.4 thou. tn., the change made +9.5% or +5.5 thou. tn., peat, handled 20.0 thou. tn., the change made +354.5% or 15.6 thou. tn. Increase of chemical cargo load (bulk cargo), handled 17.9 thou. tn., the change made +11.9% or +1.9 thou. tn., and fertilizer load, handled 13.1 thou. tn., the change made +1 210.0% or +12.1 thou. tn.
Decrease of ferrous metals and their products, handled 182.4 thou. tn., the change made –45.8% or –154.4 thou. tn., non-ferrous metals and their products, handled 79.2 thou. tn., the change made –52.4% or –87.0 thou. tn., coal, handled 51.4 thou. tn., the change made –69.6% or –117.8 thou. tn., wood, handled 382.3 thou. tn., the change made –31.5% or 175.8 thou. tn.
Passengers. The number of passengers in Liepoja Seaport – 29 648, the change made 41.0% or 8 660 passengers.
Vessels. Totally served 891 vessels, the change made –27.0% or –322 vessels.
