Birzai Tourism Cluster will seek to double the flow of tourists by 2015
The Birzai Tourism Cluster was initiated by Birzai District Municipality and “Enterprise Lithuania” (is an agency under the Ministry of Economy of the Republic of Lithuania). The cluster unites 13 entrepreneurs, who agreed to engage in a common activity.
The Birzai Tourism Cluster will seek to double the flow of tourists by 2015 compared to 2012 and develop tour packages that would be attractive to pupils, groups of friends and co-workers, provide facilities for business seminars or conferences and offer extraordinary leisure activities and educational tourism services.
The companies in the cluster develop common marketing activities, draft and distribute advertising material, post information on the internet and collectively take part in tourism exhibitions in Latvia and Lithuania. This cooperation allows cutting down per capita expenses for marketing, helps to ensure a higher quality of services, increase the flow of tourists and raises the awareness of tourism services.
What makes Birzai attractive to tourists? Birzai features a unique landscape dotted with sinkholes caused by karst processes, which involve the dissolution of layers of bedrock. Birzai is famous for its breweries and ancient brewing traditions. The Širvėnos Lake in Birzai is the oldest artificial lake in Lithuania. It was created by the construction of a dam in late 16th century. On the southern shore of Širvėna Lake stands Birzai Castle.
On 7-9th of February, the Birzai Tourism Cluster will participate at the tourism exhibition BALTTOUR 2014 in Riga and present tourist destinations in Birzai, and promote attractive tour packages. It will be the cluster’s first appearance at a tourism exhibition abroad.
We invite visitors to visit the Birzai Tourism Cluster’s stand No H26 at BALTTOUR 2014.
* The participation of the Birzai Tourism Clusterat the exhibition will be partially financed from EU Structural Funds and the project “Fostering internationalization of partnership between business and science”.
