The Security Police Board's yearbook that was published on Monday discloses a case whereby a representative of Moscow Georgi Muradov visited Tallinn in February 2010 in order to compile a joint list of Russian-speaking candidates for the European Parliament elections, writes LETA/Postimees Online. According to the Security Police, Muradov pledged that the candidates of a common list would receive a motivation package of more than ten million kroons. The funding was pledged if the candidates of the joint list would meet a certain set of requirements.

“It is, however, not known, how much money really would have reached Estonia as the Russian-speaking political forces were unable to compile a joint list and there was no motivation package set up,” reads the yearbook.

On February 28, 2009 the Russian compatriots’ organisations held a meeting in Estonia and on the same day, Muradov, the head of the foreign relations department of the Moscow City Government, started his two-day visit to Estonia. In an interview given to the Estonian media ¬ in the beginning of his visit, Muradov stated that he arrived in Estonia for a vacation and to visit a friend of his. In reality, according to the Security Police, he spent a lot of time in the Russian embassy in Tallinn, holding talks with representatives of compatriots’ organisations who were summoned to the embassy.

“During the European Parliament elections in 2009 it appeared again how Russian politicians ‘do not interfere’ with the internal matters of other countries in the form of their compatriots’ policies,” commented the Security Police.
