In a press conference today, Berzins noted that in his meeting with Prime Minister Valdis Dombrovskis (Unity) this morning, he had informed the president about his state visits to Brazil and the United States. "We discussed the way in which we could provide these meetings abroad with some practical direction," said the president, pointing out that suggestions might also come from his "new advisor, who will begin work on August 1."
Berzins' press secretary, Liga Krapane, confirmed that the president meant Egle, when talking about the advisor.
As reported, Berzins has addressed Egle, asking her to become his advisor in economics. A decision is expected after the LDDK Council meeting on July 27.
Egle confirmed to LETA, that she was addressed by the president to become his advisor, but repeatedly pointed out that she will not comment on this matter until the LDDK Council meeting.
However, Latvian Television, with reference to unofficial sources, reports that Egle has accepted Berzins' proposal to join his team. Egle is to not only provide advice on economic issues, but also set up the Strategic Analysis Committee.
The new chief of LDDK could be announced next week.
