Candy imported from Ukraine increase the competition for confectionery made in Lithuania, Verslo Zinios business daily said, cites LETA/BNS.
"The main products of Roshen
is bulk candy, and it takes the market share from other products in the
category, including Lithuanian. Unfortunately, our consumers do not or rarely
read labels, therefore, they do not see that the ingredients of Ukrainian
products are worse, for instance, they use extremely large amounts of
trans-fats, which our Health Ministry recommends to limit, as well as a lot of
sugars. The materials are the cheapest," said Rolandas Janceris, CEO of Vilniaus
Pergale, one of Lithuania's biggest sweets makers.
Rolandas Pridotkas, CEO of Ruta candy maker, said
in his turn that the supply of candy depends on retail chains, which have
lately been offering increasingly more Ukrainian candy.
