Prices for cheaper cigarettes in Latvia to increase in 2010

Nina Kolyako, BC, Riga, 20.10.2009.Print version
As of the year 2010, cigarettes on Latvian market will have a fixed rate, therefore cheaper brands could see a LVL 0.10 increase, as reporters were informed yesterday by Prime Minister Valdis Dombrovskis.

The ruling coalition parties agreed to apply such a fixed rate to increase the state budget revenue by about LVL 3 million to LVL 7 million, informs LETA.

Less expensive cigarettes could face an 8% price increase; therefore, for example, those packs now costing LVL 1.23 would increase to LVL 1.33.
