Unilever buys ice cream business of Ingman

The consumer goods company Unilever said on Tuesday it had acquired the ice cream business of Finnish food producer Ingman Group, including the Mazeikiai-based plant, to bulk up its presence in the frozen snack market.

The company did not disclose financial details of the deal for Ingman Ice Cream which generated sales of EUR 70 million last year, reports LETA.

 

"Ice cream is a strategically important category and a leading growth component of Unilever," said Rafal Trydenski, Unilever director for the Baltic States.

 

Unilever said it expects to get all the necessary regulatory approvals at the beginning of 2012.

 

Ingman, whose brands include Kingis and Jattis, has production facilities in Finland, Sweden, Lithuania and Belarus and employs 700 staff.

 

Unilever is a British-Dutch company leading the global consumer goods business. It owns such consumer brands as Lipton, Knorr, Ben & Jerry's, Magnum, Omo, Dove, Axe, Rexona. The company employs about 167,000 people across over a hundred world countries.

 

In 2010, Unilever saw its annual turnover at EUR 44.3 billion.
