At around 11 a.m. today, a fire broke out in Pavilosta's restaurant and lodge "Akagals" (SW Latvia), setting ablaze the surrounding wooden buildings, "Rietumu Radio" was informed by eyewitness Valdis Sture.
Shortly after 11 a.m., Sture noticed smoke rising from a wooden building. It burned down in no time as strong winds helped the fire spread rapidly.
Firefighters arrived at the scene 20 minutes later, preventing a tragic outcome, since "Akagals" is located not far away from residential housing. The blaze was about to spread in their direction, said Sture.
State Fire and Rescue Service press representative Inga Vetere informed LETA that the call came in at 10.56 a.m. The fire was localized at 12.32 p.m.
The blaze decimated 200 square meters of "Akagals" second floor and roof.
