Lithuania health min wants to increase excise duty on cigarettes and alcohol every year
"I am in favour of having a consistent alcohol and tobacco control policy in Lithuania and continuously increasing excise duties on them so that alcohol and tobacco influence and access shrinks," Andriukaitis said Wednesday in a news conference at the Ministry of Health, where Dr Haik Nikogosian, the head of the Convention Secretariat, WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (WHO FCTC) is paying a visit at the minister's invitation.
The minister also said that he was in favour of having fewer shops that sell alcohol.
"Today Lithuania is enormously ahead of other member-states of the European Union when it comes to shop when one can easily buy alcohol and cigarettes. Sweden has in total 700 of such shops, while in Lithuania there are over 11,000 or 12,000 shops selling alcohol," Andriukaitis stressed.
