Estonian state wants to reduce tax-free alcohol and tobacco import
BC, Tallinn, 07.06.2013.Print version
The Estonian government approved on Thursday of amendments to the draft law that toughens the conditions for bringing tax-free fuel, tobacco and alcohol to Estonia from third states, informs LETA.
Alcohol, tobacco and fuel can be brought across the EU border excise-tax free when bringing the goods can be considered random, said the finance ministry. Thus, when the law is approved by the parliament, people will be allowed to bring from a state outside the European Union cigarettes up to two times a month, alcohol and fuel once a month excise-tax-free. Excise tax freedom on tobacco products is implemented twice a month since Estonia uses the reduced excise tax free limit – a member state can choose whether to free 40 or 200 cigarettes of excise tax.
The tax administrator can implement additional excise tax freedom if bringing the excise tax goods is of random nature.
