Selver and Prisma chains have the highest markup in Estonia

BC, Tallinn, 25.07.2013.Print version
Although retail chains claim that competition on the Estonian market is very fierce, the markup of prices in the retail sector varies greatly from chain to chain, writes LETA/Postimees.

According to the newspaper’s calculations, Selver and Prisma Peremarket chains stand out with the highest markup.

Postimees assessed the markup in retail chains via the gross profit margin, taking from the companies’ profit reports their sales revenue, detracting the costs on goods, raw materials and services. The only retail chain in Estonia to declare the relevant numbers in its financial reports was Maxima Estonia.

According to the newspaper’s calculations, Selver has the highest gross profit margin among major retail chains in Estonia – 23%. That of Prisma Peremarket also exceeds 20%, in Rimi the gross profit margin is 11.3% and in Maxima Estonia only 2.3%.
