Ilmar Kompus, the new owner of the Baltic News Service (BNS) news agency and media monitoring group, says that he is the actual owner of the company, and he did not buy it in anyone else's interest, informs LETA.

Kompus spoke in an interview with the Nozare.lv business portal.

"The buyer was an Estonian company, which belongs to me. I do not represent any third parties," said Kompus. He went on to say that the acquisition of BNS was not a "speculative deal", and that he had no intention of selling the company.

"BNS is in good shape, from a business standpoint, with a professional team and a range of services. I am not planning any changes in this regard," Kompus told Nozare.lv, adding that he saw much potential in the company that he would strive to achieve.

Kompus went on to say that Sky Media had nothing to do with the acquisition of BNS.

Before the Nozare.lv interview, Kompus had told the ERR broadcasting company that he was not planning any major changes in the operations of BNS.

BNS and its monitoring subsidiaries have strong positions in Estonia, but the situation in the other two Baltic countries was "different."

Kompus said that BNS would seek to consolidate its positions in Latvia and Lithuania.

As reported, the international media group Alma Media has sold BNS to the Estonian company Ou Uudisvoog, Alma Media reported.

Ou Uudisvoog belongs to Kompus, who is also the head of the Estonian broadcasting network Sky Media.

The parties have agreed not to reveal the amount of the deal to the public. Nevertheless, Alma Media says in a statement to the media that, after the deal is completed, Alma Media income in the first quarter of 2014 will increase EUR 0.8 million.

The new owner of the BNS group, Ou Uudisvoog belongs to the Estonian venture capital company Koha Capital Ou. Ou Uudisvoog includes the Sky Media radio group.

BNS was established in 1990, it was incorporated in Alma Media in 1998.
