Yesterday, on April 28, ESPA Rīga, an exclusive and innovative spa center, opened its doors to guests wishing to experience world class spa treatments at the Reval Hotel Latvija complex at 4a Baznīcas Street, Riga.

ESPA Rīga is situated at the very heart of Riga in a building designed at the end of the 19th century by the famous Latvian architect Konstantīns Pēkšēns. The interior of the building, which adjoins the Reval Hotel Latvija, is notable for its originality in uniting modern interior design with the period features  of the historic building. The standout feature of the ESPA premises is its spiral staircase, tiled with a mosaic of black crystal and gold.

ESPA is one of the world's leading authorities on all things connected to spas, offering customers a wide range of natural products and innovative and effective treatments. ESPA prides itself on its skills in combining aromatherapy, thalassotherapy and fitotherapy with the world’s best healing and relaxation techniques, both ancient and modern.

Susan Harmsworth, CEO and founder of ESPA International says,  “Entering ESPA Riga is like stepping into Riga’s ambitious future. Creating this spa has been an incredibly exciting project for us. The unique design incorporates a dedication to detail which ensures first impressions are breath-taking and ever-lasting. Inspired by ‘Fire and Water’ the design includes a spiral staircase in black and gold tiles with a glass balustrade by Eva Menz which serves as a focal sculptural element, and is just one of many stunning features that flow throughout the 6 floors of the spa. ESPA Riga is a truly unique space in which to escape and revitalise in the heart of the city and experience the highly effective ESPA treatments from aromatherapy, hydrotherapy, phytotherapy and Ayruvedic techniques through to signature treatments exclusive to ESPA Riga and created around the Baltic amber stone, performed of course by our highly skilled and trained ESPA therapists”.

An 18-metre long swimming pool with black mosaic tiles and golden lines, a vitality pool, as well as a sauna and steam bath, poolside bar, heated benches and a variety of showers are take up the first floor of the ESPA complex. The ESPA Café, fitness studio, and manicure and pedicure studios are on the second floor. The luxurious guest changing rooms are situated on the third floor and treatment rooms and a relaxation area occupy the fourth and fifth floors of the building. The sixth floor houses the thermal complex with saunas, baths, relaxation rooms and an open-air vitality pool with a beautiful view of the city skyline, especially at night.

“We are delighted that a unique and original work of art uniting classical architectural values with a modern and luxurious interior has been created. The renewed building fits nicely into the joint ensemble of the Reval Hotel Latvija and the SPA complex established here is a superb addition to the range of services we provide,” says Kari Hiltunen, Country Manager of Reval Hotels in Latvia.

ESPA Rīga offers not only standard spa treatments, but also invites customers to enjoy special relaxation techniques  adjusted to the dynamic environment of Latvia, such as Amber Crystal Chakra Balancing, Stress Buster,  Botanical Facial Ritual and  Restorative Body Ritual,” said BC Inga Kļaviņa, director of ESPA Rīga.

Renowned experts worked on the interior design and architectural solutions found in the ESPA facility. The man behind the architectural concept is Bruno Deslandes (SIA ARCHItrāvs). Other architects have been involved as Barbara Bula and Elīna Rožulapa. Execution drawings during construction phases were done under SIA Arhitektūras un interjera studija STAŅEVIČA UN BULA. The interior was designed by well-known Irish architects, DOUGLAS & WALLACE, while the unique lighting of the facade and the interior was developed by the experts of LIGHTING DESIGN INTERNATIONAL (UK).

A variety of materials was used for the interior design of the complex, including stone, leather, metal, glass, walnut plywood and mirrors. The main colour accents are violet and orange, complimented by glass mosaic tiles drawing on the hues found in Latvian amber.

ESPA was established 16 years ago by Susan Harmsworth, an industry leader with over 30 years experience in all areas of the spa business. Currently operating in 34 countries, ESPA is widely recognised as one of the world’s leading spa consultancy companies.

Reval Hotels belongs to Norwegian real estate investor Linstow AS, which is owned by AWILHELMSEN AS, a co-owner of the world’s largest cruise ship company, Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines.
