According to an agreement regarding the European-gauge railway project Rail Baltic signed on Friday, the European Union is to allocate a total of 191 million euros for the project and 13 mln euros of the money would be used to build a tram route between the Tallinn Airport and the Ulemiste transportation terminal.

Innovation and Networks Executive Agency (INEA), the Rail Baltic joint venture and the Baltic ministries on Friday signed a financing agreement, the total volume of which is 225 mln euros and 85% or 191 mln euros of which would be funded from the European Union's Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) and the rest by the three Baltic countries themselves.

The total volume of the Estonian projects is 13 mln euros, of which support makes up 11 mln euros, the joint venture RB Rail said. Most of the sum is to be used to set up a tram connection between the Ulemiste terminal and the Tallinn Airport, which was already started in 2016.

Lithuania will get the biggest sum from the second funding round -- 211.5 mln euros, of which support amounts to 190 mln euros.
