Ave Logistic ferry operator, who opened a ferry line between Latvia's southwestern city of Liepaja and Germany's Travemunde in 2008, has started offering trips from Liepaja to German cities.

The company's director Rauls Stuks told the press on Friday that cargo transportation between Liepaja and Travemunde is growing gradually, therefore the company will not focus on tourism services. The company has started offering trips from Liepaja to Luebeck, Hamburg and German entertainment parks, writes BNS.

The ferry has seats for 400 passengers.

Stuks said that German tourists show interest in the ferry line, while Latvian tourists often travel in groups.

Another ferry is expected to start plying between Liepaja to Germany and possibly also to Sweden this summer. The company is still looking for an appropriate ferry.

Stuks said that the ferry line between Liepaja and Travemunde has been operated for just half a year and the results have exceeded the target.

Ave Logistic representative Julija Maliseva said that the company has a 51% market share in Latvian ferry service market. "It is a very good result for six months," she said.

Ave Line ferry line was opened between Liepaja and Travemunde in November 2008.

The operator of the ferry line is Ave Logistic. In Liepaja the ferry line is served by stevedore Terrabalt.
