Tallinn Airport will get automatic border crossing kiosks in 2013

Maybe already at the end of the year 2012, but more likely next year, European Union citizens can cross the Schengen visa area border in Tallinn Airport too, by using automated passport control, which can now be seen for example in the Finnish Vantaa or Spanish Madrid airports, LETA/Eesti Päevaleht reports.

Police and Border Guard Board border guard department travel documents evaluation centre senior specialist Vello Küla, who heads the automatic border crossing control project, says that the corresponding kiosks might be installed in the Tallinn Airport already by the end of this year.

The system works for passengers who have a biometric chip EU or European economic area passport, as the machines compare the information in the passport with the person's fingerprint and facial image.

The Police and Border Guard is currently compiling state procurement documents and soon the international procurement should be declared.
