Riga Airport runway 3200 meters long after reconstruction
Thanks to runway extension, intercontinental flight airplanes can now land at the Riga Airport, for instance, “Airbus A 340” and “Boeing” 747, 757, 767, 777, as the airport press secretary Martins Langrats told LETA.
The project cost a total of EUR 23.5 million, of which EUR 16.5 million were allotted from the European Union Cohesion Funds.
The reconstruction of the Riga Airport runway and the runway lighting system began last May, it had to be completed by October 30 this year.
Five companies participated in the reconstruction project: Firma L4, SC&A, A.C.B., Leminkainen Lemcon and the German company HoneyWell Airport Systems GmbH.
The reconstructed runway will be officially opened in a ceremony on Friday, October 17.
Riga Airport board chairman Krisjanis Peters and Transport Minister Ainars Slesers (Latvia’s First Party/Latvia’s Way) will participate in the ceremony. Representatives of airlines that operate flights to the Riga Airport and leaders of the companies that participated in the runway reconstruction project have also been invited.
