Passenger volumes at Riga Airport increased by 17.1% in 11 months of 2008

In comparison, Tallinn Airport serviced 1,702,410 passengers in the first 11 months of the year, which is a 6.3% increase when compared to last year, whilst Vilnius Airport serviced 1,937,000 passengers, which is 22% more than last year.
On the other hand, this past November, Riga Airport serviced a total of 273,870 passengers, which is more than Vilnius and Tallinn serviced combined.
When compared to last November, the number of passengers serviced at the Riga Airport increased by 8.3%, however, the number of passengers serviced at Vilnius Airport decreased by 12.4% in November, and at Tallinn Airport by 11.7% last month.
Passengers can fly to 60 destinations from the Riga Airport this winter season, which is ten destinations more when compared to last winter season.
Compared to the first 11 months of 2007, there has been a substantial increase in the volume of transit passengers using the Riga Airport this year, reaching 452,000 or 14.4% of the total passengers traveling through the airport.
The Riga-London route has been the most popular so far this year, as 273,335 passengers have traveled on the route in the first 11 months.
The Riga-Berlin route is the second most popular, as 195,317 passengers have traveled on the route so far this year.
The Riga-Dublin is the third most popular route at the Riga Airport, followed by the Riga-Stockholm, Riga-Copenhagen and Riga-Helsinki routes.]
There has also been a substantial increase in the number of people using the Riga-Tallinn and Riga-Vilnius routes this year. In the first 11 months of the year, 75,498 passengers traveled on the Riga-Vilnius route, compared to 29,324 past year, and 67,829 passengers traveled the Riga-Tallinn route, compared to 42,798 last year.
"These figures show that more and more Estonian and Lithuanian travelers are choosing to fly to further destinations from the Riga Airport," the airport Vice President Janis Balkens said.
