60% disapprove of building fence on borders to fight African swine fever
22 percent approve of building a fence to prevent the dangerous fever from spreading into the Baltic countries from Russia and Belarus.
18 percent have no opinion.
The survey was carried out from August 6 to 8; a total of 900 residents ages 18 to 55 were interviewed, reported LETA.
As reported, to limit African swine fever from spreading into the Baltic countries from Russia and Belarus, a fence will have to be built on the countries' borders with Russia and Belarus to prevent free movement of wild boars; hopefully the significant expenses will be covered by the European Union, as Food and Veterinary Service Director General Maris Balodis told Nozare.lv after a meeting of Lithuanian, Latvian, Estonian and Polish veterinary services' heads in Vilnius at the end of July.
The fence will be built along the entire border of Poland, Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia with Russia and Belarus. This is the only way to curb the movement of wild boars, explained Balodis.
