7 mln contraband cigarettes confiscated in Riga
The State Revenue Service announced that a "Mercedes Benz" cargo truck containing 7,200,000 "Goal" brand cigarettes without any excise duty labels was detained in Riga, Braslas Street. The driver explained that the cargo was loaded in a warehouse in Riga on October 10 afternoon. The truck departed on October 13 morning.
Customs officers also found out that no dispatch note was recorded in the warehouse's inventory system.
The staff of the warehouse were unable to explain the origin of it. The warehouse was also unable to provide any manufacturing documents.
The State Revenue Service has decided to strip the warehouse of its license. The said cigarettes, the truck, two PC processors, as well a cigarette manufacturing machine were confiscated.
The evidence has been handed over to the State Police.
