Harmony Center/Honor To Serve Riga win 39 seats on City Council

The joint ticket of Harmony Center and Honor To Serve Riga (SC/GKR) has won 39 out of 60 seats on the Riga City Council, Riga Election Commission's Chairman Juris Kokins confirmed to LETA.

All For Latvia-For Fatherland And Freedom/LNNK (VL-TB/LNNK) will have twelve seats on the Riga City Council and Unity will be represented by nine councilmen.

 

SC/GKR took 58.54% of the vote in Riga, VL-TB/LNNK – 17.86%, and Unity – 14.13%.

 

The other political parties that participated in Riga City Council election have failed to clear the 5% threshold.

 

3.99% of voters in Riga voted for the Latvian Green Party, Latvia's Farmers Union took 1.88% of the vote, Reform Party – 1.58%, United for Latvia – 0.48%, For Native Language – 0.34%, Party of Action – 0.24%, Latvian Social Democratic Workers Party – 0.21%, Alternative – 0.16%, For Independent Latvia and Solidarity – 0.14%.

 

The Central Election Commission announced the names of new Riga City Council members this afternoon.

 

Riga City Council members elected from the SC/GKR ticket are Nils Usakovs, Andris Ameriks, Dainis Turlais, Eizenija Aldermane, Vjaceslavs Stepanenko, Valerijs Petrovs, Vadims Baranniks, Jefimijs Klementjevs, Irina Vinnika, Maksims Tolstojs, Mihails Kameneckis, Olegs Burovs, Sergejs Hristolubovs, Svetlana Savicka, Olga Veidina, Igors Kuzmuks, Andrejs Kozlovs, Janis Locmelis, Agris Ameriks, Vadims Falkovs, Andris Berzins, Ainars Bastiks, Vita Jermolovica, Igors Solomatins, Baiba Rozentale, Vadims Jerosenko, Ruslans Pankratovs, Anatolijs Aleksejenko, Dmitrijs Pavlovs, Ausma Cimdina, Mihails Gavrilovs, Raimonds Gailis, Tatjana Lukina, Nikolajs Zaharovs, Juris Zakis, Vladimirs Dolgins, Anna Vladova, Vladimirs Frolovs and Igors Solovjovs.

 

Riga City Council members elected from VL-TB/LNNK include Baiba Broka, Aleksandrs Kirsteins, Andris Vilks, Nauris Puntulis, Dainis Locis, Karlis Dombrovskis, Girts Lapins, Janis Atis Krumins, Ritvars Jansons, Andris Parups, Ieva Holma and Andris Lacis.

 

Riga City Council members elected from Unity are Olafs Pulks, Ints Dalderis, Sarmite Elerte, Peteris Vinkelis, Baiba Brigmane, Aigars Petersons, Karlis Strelis, Valdis Gavars and Ugis Rotbergs.

 

In the previous local government elections in 2009, Harmony Center won with 32.29% of the vote, which gave the party 26 seats on the Riga City Council. LPP/LC, the party of Vice Mayor Andris Ameriks that was led by Ainars Slesers in 2009, was supported by 15.1% of voters and won twelve seats on the city council.

 

Civic Union and New Era, two parties that later merged to create the Unity political party, took 18.9% and 11.08% of the vote in 2009, with fourteen and eight councilmen respectively.
