Famous Lithuanian actor Masiulis passed away
Prominent theater and cinema actor Algimantas Masiulis, aged 68, died on early Tuesday morning, Kaunas National Drama Theatre reports.
The actor worked for many years at the Panevezys Drama Theatre, played at the Kaunas Drama Theatre and created over 90 remarkable characters not only in Lithuania, but also in other cinema studios. Recently Masiulis spent more of his time on drawing.
In November 2006, the third painting exhibition "Drawing alone – being with everyone" of the actor was opened at Kaunas Artists" House.
Masiulis played his first role of a student of gymnasium in the play "Schoolgirl", directed by his teacher Juozas Miltinis in autumn of 1948.
The actor started to work at Kaunas National Drama Theatre since 1978. At the same time, Masiulis acted in popular movies, such as "Adam Wants to Be a Man" (1956), "Herkus Mantas" (1972), "The Autumn of My Childhood" (1977), "American Tragedy" (1981), "Flight Over Atlantic Ocean" (1982), "The New Adventures of Robin Hood" (1996), as well as in the television series "Criminal Stories" (1995-1996) and "Kamenskaja" (1999), which attracted numerous viewers.
Ten years ago, the distinguished theatre and cinema actor was awarded the Third-Class Order of the Lithuanian Grand Duke Gediminas.
