Estonia: Enefit Green's renewable electricity production up 30% on year in July

BC, Tallinn, 17.08.2020.Print version
Enefit Green, renewable energy subsidiary of state-owned Estonian energy group Eesti Energia, produced 84 gigawatt-hours of renewable electricity in July, 30% more than in the same month in 2019 when the company's renewable energy production totaled 64 gigawatt-hours, informed LETA/BNS.

For context, the 84 gigawatt-hours of renewable electricity produced in July would provide sufficient electricity to cover the average consumption of nearly 30,000 households for an entire year. The lions' share, 70 gigawatt-hours, of July's renewable energy was produced by Enefit Green's wind farms in Estonia and Lithuania. The company's CEO Aavo Karmas said that Enefit Green's solar parks' too, have shown good production.

"The summer months have been windier than the average, as a result of which wind energy production has been very satisfactory. Due to Enefit Green's diverse production portfolio, however, the production of renewable energy is also guaranteed when there is no wind but the sun is shining," Karmas said.

The production result for July 2020 includes the output generated by Estonian and Lithuanian wind farms, solar farms in Estonia and Poland, cogeneration plants in Iru, Paide, Valka and Broceni, the Keila-Joa hydroelectric power plant and the Ruhnu renewable energy solution.

Due to summer not being heating season, Enefit Green's heat production from the Iru, Paide, Valka cogeneration plants in July totaled 6 gigawatt-hours.

The increase in renewable energy production will contribute to Eesti Energia's strategic goal of producing 43 % of electricity and heat from renewable sources in 2024.
