TEO LT, the largest provider of integrated telecommunication, IT and TV services in Lithuania, in March 2010 has increased speed of Internet access services for most residential and business customers in Lithuania. Having invested in the next-generation network, TEO increased the speed of Internet access in Lithuania, and enhanced international Internet traffic enabled increasing the international bandwidth as well.

For many of TEO business customers, international bandwidth was increased twofold and the speed of local Internet connection was increased as well. In March, names of the payment plans of TEO LT, offered to business customers, have been changed, but the prices of services remained at previous level, reports LETA/ELTA.

For many residential users of fiber-optic ZEBRA Internet services, speed was increased by two times. For customers with particularly high demands on speed, TEO LT offers ZEBRA Internet plan "Mega FTTH", which is the fastest in Lithuania – 200 Mbps.

Moderate Internet users can choose a new payment plan "Para" ("Twenty-Four Hours"), which allows access to the Internet five days per month for the monthly fee of 9.90 litas.

According to Nerijus Ivanauskas, the Chief Marketing Officer of TEO LT, the company devoted particular attention to increasing the international bandwidth – for most business customers it was increased by two times, whereas for residential customers – even by up to ten times.

"Amount of information, downloaded by Lithuanian Internet users from abroad, is increasing, so we have provided opportunities to do that almost as fast as from servers in Lithuania", Ivanauskas said.

By the end of the year, TEO plans to increase total speed of the international Internet traffic more than twice – up to 48 Gbps.

According to the data, released by the FTTH Council Europe at the end of February, Lithuania implements the New-generation fiber-optic Internet technologies at the fastest pace in Europe. Currently FTTH (Fiber to the Home) network is available to nearly one-third of Lithuanian residents.

The New-generation fiber-optic network, which is being actively implemented by TEO, currently operates in more than thirty cities of Lithuania. It is being developed at the fastest rate in the country's biggest cities – it is estimated that by the end of 2010 it will be available for use to approximately 95% residents of Vilnius and Klaipeda, 70% residents of Kaunas, half of Panevezys residents, and a third of Siauliai residents.

At present, TEO LT Internet services are used by more than 315,000 customers.

TEO provides integrated telecommunication, IT and TV services to residents and business. More than 60% of the company's shares are directly and indirectly owned by TeliaSonera, one of the largest telecommunications corporations in the Nordic and Baltic countries.
