Estonian economy and communications minister Juhan Parts said on Thursday at the government’s press conference that a space affairs council will be founded in the near future, LETA/Postimees Online reports.

Parts said that Estonia has by now concluded several international agreements in the space sphere and cop operation between ministries in this sphere has to be improved considerably.

“The government supported the idea that the economy minister will create a space affairs council by the minister. One of the central tasks of the council in the coming year is to compile a realistic action plan for the public sector,” said Parts.

Parts said that the council would help find an answer to in which spheres of the state sector, things could be organised better thanks to space technology. He cited as examples the surveillance of land and sea border, fast discovery of sea pollution and forest fires etc.
