Facebook will not remove Latvian site Ask.fm

BC, Riga, 22.02.2013.Print version
Facebook (NASDAQ:FB) has recently refused to disable an ‘app’ from a controversial Latvian site that is connected to the suicide of two teenage Irish girls, as LETA/The Irish Times reports.

The social media giant said Wednesday that a review of Ask.fm and its use of FB protocols had been performed by its safety development team.

This action has been done after alleged links between the Latvian site and the deaths last year of Ciara Pugsley (15) in Leitrim and Erin Gallagher (13) in Donegal. Both teens committed suicides after a vicious campaign of online bullying including abuse on the Ask.fm site.

However, the world’s largest social media site said that Ask.fm, which has an ‘app’ link to its site, have not violated the US firm’s strict data sharing policies.

Therefore, the Latvian site will continue to be permitted use an ‘app’ link on Facebook (FB).
