The Latvian economy will reach the lowest point in winter 2010, as Economy Minister Artis Kampars (New Era) said in an interview with the LNT television this morning.

Heating costs will decrease at least 20% though; therefore residents could have fewer problems with paying utility bills, writes LETA.

According to the Economy Ministry's estimates, Latvia's gross domestic product will resume growth in 2011. Nevertheless, exports have been growing in two economy sectors already – wood industry and food industry. Kampars said that if the Latvian food producers are able to increase exports when the export markets are shrinking, their exports will increase significantly after the foreign markets reopen.

Kampars is confident that the international lenders will approve allotting the next tranche of funds to Latvia in the coming days already.
