93% Latvian enterprises used computer in business activities in January 2009

The survey “Data collection on ICT usage and e-commerce in enterprises”* carried out by the Central Statistical Bureau in the beginning of 2009 shows that in January 2009 93% of enterprises used computer in business activities, but the Internet was used by 86% of enterprises.

In January 2009 share of enterprises with own home page reached 42%. And 87% of larger enterprises (with the number of employees 250 and more) had their own home page.

In 2008 62% of enterprises used Internet for interaction with public authorities which is more by 8 percentage points than in 2007. 58% of all enterprises used Internet for obtaining information, 56% - for obtaining forms, but every second enterprise used it for returning filled in forms (50%). 40% of enterprises used Internet for treating an administrative procedure completely electronically. In its turn every tenth enterprise used Internet for submitting a proposal in a public electronic tender system (e-procurement) (9.5%).

During 2008 16% of enterprises purchased goods or services on the Internet and 5% used Internet for selling goods or services online. Moreover, the largest enterprises (with the number of employees 250 and more) were engaged in electronic trade more often – 23% of enterprises purchased goods or services on the Internet, but 10% of enterprises used Internet for selling online. During this period the share of purchases made online was 4.0% or 890 mln lats of the total value of goods or services purchased. In its turn the value of goods and services sold on the Internet comprised 4.4% or 1,262 mln lats of total enterprises turnover.

More information on the results of the survey is available in public data bases on the home page of CSB. In December the data collection „Information society in Latvia” will be published. Such survey is carried out in all member countries of the European Union (EU), therefore the obtained results are comparable and will be also published on the home page of Eurostat http://ec.europa.eu/eurostat
