Eurostat: number of individuals of working age Estonians will in the next 16 years fall by nearly 100,000 persons

Eurostat predicts that the number of individuals of working age living in Estonia will in the next 16 years fall by nearly 100,000 persons while the number of people of pension age will grow by nearly 44,000, writes Postimees Online/LETA.

According to Eurostat, this year there is a total of 885,972 persons of working age (aged 15-62) – 66.3% of the total number of residents of Estonia. Population of working age (aged 63 and older) amounts to 250,631 persons – 18.8% of the total number of residents.

 

The projections note that in the year 2025, the number of population of working age will have fallen to 787,019 persons – 60.9% of the total population. The entire population is expected to amount to 1.29 million persons. The number of people of pension age is expected to reach 294,554 in 2025 – 22.8% of the total number of residents.

 

Eurostat has projected that by the year 2035, Estonia will have 753,055 persons of working age and 315,150 persons of pension age – 60.6% and 25.4%, respectively, of the entire population which is expected to amount to 1.24 individuals.
