Unemployment rate in Lithuania increased by 3.5% in October

In October 2009, the level of unemployment in Lithuania increased. The number of unemployed people registered in territorial labour exchanges stood at 29.7%, a decrease by 3.5% as compared to September.

According to spokesperson of the Lithuanian Labour Exchange, territorial labour exchanges specialists could offer 10,4 thousand working places for the unemployed last month. Although the demand for labor decreased by around 15% in comparison with September, however, compared to the same month of the previous year, there was bigger demand for carpenters, builders and a wide range of construction workers. The number of jobs registered for people of mentioned professions increased by 30%, writes ELTA/LETA.

 

On October 1, there were 235,5 thousand unemployed registered in the Lithuanian Labour Exchange database. This is 10,9% of all Lithuanian population, an increase by 0,6%age points as compared to the previous month.

 

The largest unemployment rate in October was registered in Druskininkai (15.6%.), Salcininkai (15.1%.), Akmene and Ingalina (15% each), and the smallest - in Neringa (3.8%), Elektrenai (6.5%), Trakai (7.0%) and Kazlu Ruda (8.0%) municipalities. Among major cities, the largest number of unemployed was registered in Panevezys and Kaunas - 13.7 and 9.8% respectively.

 

Due to the cooperation of labour exchanges, 11,4 thousand of people were given jobs.
