Lithuania's largest companies employ 18% less persons in 2011, than in 2009

Top 20 largest Lithuania's companies currently employ approximately 70,000 persons; however, this is 15,400 people less or 18% less than two years ago, as LETA/ELTA report, referring to kurier.lt. Lithuania's largest employers include retail companies and state-owned enterprises.
The country's biggest employer is a retail company Maxima LT which at present has 15,200 employees which is 9% less as compared with a related period two years ago.
The second biggest employer in Lithuania is a state-manages railway transport enterprise Lietuvos Gelezinkeliai with quite stable staff numbers at 10,600 persons. The third is a retail trade company Palink, the owner of retail chain Iki, which has 7,200 workers.
Lithuania-based post services company Lietuvos Pastas has experienced the strongest decrease in number of employees in 2008-2010. At the time being, 9,000 persons work for this company, in a course of two years, 2,000 employees have been let go in this enterprise.
