More Africans and Asians are residing in Lithuania

31 thousand foreigners are residing in Lithuania at the moment. The majority of them are EU citizens. However, it has been noticed that more and more Africans and Asians are becoming interested in Lithuania.

In the beginning of 2012, according to provisional data of the Residents' Register Service, 31,403 foreigners have been residing in Lithuania, reports LETA/ELTA.

This numbers makes 0.98% of all the residents of Lithuania. They are citizens of 117 foreign countries or persons without a citizenship. Last year, a number of foreigners residing in Lithuania increased by 4.7%. A number of citizens from African countries has increased to the greatest extent – by 27.7%, a number of citizens from the EU members – by 17.6%, the European Free Trade Association members – 16.1%. The number of persons having no citizenship who reside in Lithuania has decreased by 3.1%.

Third, according to their quantity, are Asians from 27 different countries. There are 1,887 Asian residents in Lithuania and it makes 6% of all the foreigners. Citizens from 26 African countries reside in Lithuania. Total amount of Africans in Lithuania is only 198 persons, which make 0.6 of all foreigners in Lithuania.
