40% Latvians smoke at least one cigarette a day in 2011

Print versionResearch on addictions conducted in 2011 by the Preventive Medicine Center hass 40% of Latvia's inhabitants saying that they smoke at least one cigarette a day.

35% say they are regular smokers, and 56% of them in turn smoke over half a pack or 10 cigarettes a day. 9% reveal that they smoke a pack a day, informs LETA.
53% of able-bodied (work age) males in Latvia smoke cigarettes regularly, females by comparison only 18%.
