Retail trade in Lithuania decreased by 6.5% in February, annual growth – 1.5%

Over the month, the turnover of enterprises trading in food products decreased by 5%, of those trading in non-food products – by 6.6%, of those engaged in retail trade in automotive fuels – by 9.6% at constant prices. The largest decrease in turnover was observed in specialised stores selling audio and video equipment (by 18.9%), clothing (17.2), and in dispensing chemist’s stores (11.1%).
Over the year (February 2013, against February 2012), the turnover (VAT excluded) of enterprises engaged in retail trade increased by 1.5% at constant prices (working day adjusted, by 2%). The turnover of enterprises trading in food products decreased by 0.2%, while the turnover of those trading in non-food products increased by 4.1%, of those engaged in retail sale of automotive fuels – also increased by 0.9% at constant prices. The largest increase in retail trade was observed in retail sale via mail order houses or via Internet (by 22.4%) and in retail sale of second-hand goods (16.2%).
In February 2013, the turnover (VAT excluded) of food and beverage service enterprises amounted to LTL 92.8 million and, against January, decreased by 8.2% at constant prices. Compared to February 2012, the turnover of enterprises engaged in the said activities dropped by 3.4% at constant prices.
