Lithuanian president: firstly politicians should reduce their own salaries

Print versionLithuania's President Dalia Grybauskaite says that the only way for politicians to win public support for austerity measures is to firstly reduce their own salaries, LETA/ELTA reports, referring to EUobserver.

Bluntly speaking politician is known for her uncompromising provisions. A person has to manage his or her finances in a sustainable manner and to live according to one's budget.
The president seems to prove her words by action. Grybauskaite chooses low cost airlines. Also when the Government has launched saving policy the president refused to take part of the salary.
"I was getting 50% of the salary during the three years of crisis from 2009 to 2012. This is how we must talk to people. If we show that we reduce our wages, we can prove that it is necessary," said Grybauskaite.
