"I am glad over today's decision of the European Commission as well as for Latvia's aspiration. Latvia made the only right decision for itself as a small state, but also a very European choice," commented Ligi.

Ligi added that he has been asked many times why Estonia doesn’t evade contributing to euro area crisis solutions and he believes that Latvia's answer would be similar to his.

"We and the whole of Europe get a lot more back from the cooperation than contribute there and all that contribution has a strong moral dimension too. I am also glad because Latvia is a good example of correcting mistakes of the past and a response to those who present the vitally necessary reforming of the state and the crisis solution as excessive austerity."
