Only 13 out of 260 new policy initiatives submitted by ministries for the National Development Plan for 2014-2020 have a direct impact on reducing inequality, according to the coalition's task force for reducing poverty, social exclusion and inequality risks in Latvia, informs LETA.

48 initiatives have an indirect impact on inequality indirectly, 199 initiatives have nothing to do with reducing inequality.

154 initiatives are not connected with the goals set in the National Development Plan.

Among those directly affecting reducing inequality in Latvia, the most important initiatives, according to Welfare Minister Ilze Vinkele (Unity) are ensuring assistant services in local governments, providing social security and care benefits, reducing outpatient and inpatient service lines, improving social inclusion among young persons and ensuring the rights of asylum seekers, refugees and persons granted an alternative status.

Vinkele points out that all initiatives are assessed according to strict criteria and their impact on reducing inequality. The task force will continue assessing the initiatives, since new proposals on expanding inequality assessment criteria have been received.

After concluding its work, the task force will present its recommendations to the government.
