Latvia registers EU's second smallest increase in new car registrations in December

New automobile registrations in Latvia increased by 3% this past December, the smallest increase in Europe, according to the European Automobile Manufacturers Association's (ACEA) latest report. 992 new automobiles were registered in Estonia in December 2013, 4.7% less than in December 2012. New automobile registrations in Lithuania increased 10.2% to 928 new automobiles, informs LETA/ELTA.

The report presents data for all European Union member states, except Malta and Croatia, as well as the European Free Trade Association countries – Switzerland, Norway and Iceland.

 

819 new automobiles were registered in Latvia in December 2013, compared to 795 in December 2012.

 

Eight of the countries included in the report registered decreases in new automobile registrations in December, 21 reported increases.

 

The Netherlands recorded the steepest increase in new automobile registrations in December – 115%, followed by Portugal – 35.8%, and Denmark – 33.2%.

 

The largest decreases were registered in Iceland – 46.7%, Ireland – 32.9%, and Luxembourg – 16.8%.

 

A total of 948,090 new automobiles were registered in all of the countries covered in the report in December 2013, 13% more than in December 2012.

 

906,294 new automobiles were registered in EU member states in December 2013, 13.3% more than in December 2012.

 

In January-December 2013, 10,637 new automobiles were registered in Latvia – 0.3% less than in January-December 2012.

 

New automobile registrations in Estonia increased 12.9% to 19,500 units in 2013, whereas Lithuania recorded a 0.1% decrease to 12,152 units.

 

A total of 12,308,215 new automobiles were registered in all of the countries covered in the report in 2013, 1.8% less than in 2012.
