The International Accordion Festival took off on November 14 and will last until November 18, 2012, the Vilnius Convention Bureau reports.

Accordion music in Lithuania developed from folk music. The founders of professional accordion school and organizers of the International Accordion Festival work to promote accordion music for over two decades. The festival with sold-out halls has proved its true worth, and the accordion – its versatility and attractiveness. Today the accordion repertoire fascinates with variety of genres and its performers with outstanding virtuosity and concert geography, writes LETA.

The superlatives describing accordion art are impressive: refined, sophisticated, versatile, resourceful, playful, luxurious, splendid, intriguing, shocking, elitist. The accordion appears in world’s prestigious concert halls performing transcriptions of baroque and classical masterpieces, original contemporary music, folklore, jazz and tango, French chanson, techno, electronic, experimental and world music.

The leading accordion masters do not sidestep the stages of the International Accordion Festival in Vilnius. The foremost accordionists from Germany, Finland, Poland, China, Japan, Norway, Spain, Russia, USA, Switzerland, France, the Netherlands, Belarus, Czech Republic, Bulgaria, Great Britain, Italy and other countries come to share their competence with the Lithuanian audience.

Held on November 14-18 in Vilnius, the 15th International Accordion Festival will be the forum for most wanted performers.
