Estonian Independence Day military parade takes place in Haapsalu

The traditional Victory Day parade takes place in Haapsalu in 2013 and has over 1,000 people participating, LETA/Public Broadcasting reports.
The Victory Day parade on June 23 is traditionally organised by the voluntary defence organisation Defence League and its affiliate organisations, Women's Home Defence, Home Daughters and Young Eagles also participate. After the parade, there will be a showing of military equipment and if weather is good, Estonian air force and NATO planes fly over the parade.
The parade is preceded and followed by a number of concerts, including those by military orchestras.
The Victory Day parade takes place in a different Estonian town every year.
Victory Day is a public holiday in Estonia, which has been celebrated on 23 June every year since 1934. The date recalls the victory in the 1919 Battle of Võnnu of the Estonian military forces and their allies over German forces who sought to re-assert Baltic-German control over the region. The battle was part of the 1918-1920 Estonian War of Independence.
