Ethnographic Open-Air Museum in Riga marks 90th anniversary in 2014

In 2014, marks the 90th anniversary since the Education Ministry's Monuments Administration decided in 1924 to establish the "Open Air Museum" in Riga, now the Latvian Ethnographic Open-Air Museum, as Daiga Lakse from the museum's information department informed LETA.
To mark the occasion, the Ethnographic Open-Air Museum, in collaboration with the National Culture Centre, will host a pre-Midsummer festival on June 14 and 15, bringing together folklore groups from all regions of Latvia.
The museum will also host other events that are part of Riga's European Capital of Culture program. In February, museum visitors will have the opportunity to witness authentic mummers play, whereas in spring, the museum will organize several Easter events.
May 7 to May 31, the museum will be occupied by various craftsmen – potters, wood carvers, music instrument makers and others. On August 9 and 10, the Contemporary Crafts Festival will take place at the museum.
The museum's exhibition hall will host exhibition "Russian North" June 1 to September 15, which will travel to Latvia from Russian Ethnographic Museum in St. Petersburg.
As usual, Latvian traditional crafts fair will probably see the highest visitor turnout on June 7 and 8.
At the end of August, the museum will celebrate Bread Festival, as well as offer various games for families with children. In September, the museum will host the Traditional Crafts Day and Harvest Festival, the Night of Spirits in October, Martins Day in November, and winter solstice day in December.
Also at the end of the year, the museum's buildings and paths will be illuminated in unusual ways to make a visit to the museum a new and unique experience.
2013 was a successful year for the Ethnographic Open-Air Museum. The museum's incomes totaled LVL 221,089, and the number of visitors increased by 19,000 last year.
