Timma joined "VEF Riga" basketball club
Latvian shooting guard Janis Timma officially joined the Latvian basketball club "VEF Riga" on Monday, as the club's director Laila Spalina informed LETA.
Timma was playing for the "Ventspils" basketball club until now.
In a statement to the media, Timma thanks "Ventspils" general manager Ralfs Pleinics and head coach Roberts Stelmahers for helping his professional growth, as well as "Ventspils" president Aivars Lembergs who has also helped Timma's career development. Timma is also grateful to the "VEF Riga" management for putting their trust in him, and says that playing for the Riga club is the next major challenge in his career.
As reported, during last year's draft, Timma was selected by the Memphis "Grizzlies" with the 60th selection.
"Timma is a key player and we are happy that he has joined our team. We believe that he will continue to progress and take our team to the next level," said "VEF Riga" head coach Nikolajs Mazurs, adding that Timma was a versatile player who would contribute to the team greatly.
Last season Timma played in 31 Latvian Basketball League games for "Ventspils", averaging 12.7 points, 6.3 rebounds and 3.5 assists.
