The first Iraqi family is set to arrive in Lithuania next week under the European Union's relocation program, the Baltic country's Interior Ministry said on Tuesday, reports LETA/BNS.

Interior Vice Minister Elvinas Jankevicius told journalists that the family of four would be relocated from Greece.

"We've been officially informed by Greece that the first family will come to Lithuania early next week," he said, adding that no more refugees were scheduled to come to Lithuania this week.

According to Jankevicius, the young Muslim family will arrive by plane. The father attended a management school and has experience of working in the management and construction areas, and the mother has not worked at all. The family speak English. Lithuanian migration and special service officers met with them in Greece last week. The family arrived in Europe earlier this year.

The Lithuanian officers also assessed other refugees in Greece but only this family met all requirements, the interior vice minister said.

"The list was much longer but today we say that only this family can come to Lithuania," Jankevicius said.

Lithuania has pledged to take in 1,105 refugees from Syria, Iraq and Eritrea over the next two years. Refugees would be relocated from Italy and Greece that are facing a major refugee inflow.
