Latvian football team moves up, Estonia and Lithuania stay put in latest FIFA rankings

The Latvian national football team has moved up two spots in the latest FIFA world football rankings to 98th position. Meanwhile, Estonia has stayed put in the rankings and is currently ranked 88th, while Lithuania has also stayed put and is currently ranked 128th, informs LETA.

 

Just last June, Latvia was ranked 82nd, but has since gradually fallen in the rankings.

 

In 2012, Latvia was ranked 70th, but in 2013 fell to its lowest ever ranking – 119th.

 

At the moment, Latvia has 341 ranking points.

 

Latvia played its previous competitive match in November – a 0:1 loss to Northern Ireland in a friendly match.

 

Latvia will play two friendly matches in March – on March 25 at Slovakia, and on March 29 at Gibraltar.

 

Belgium is atop the rankings, followed by Argentina, Spain is ranked third while Germany is ranked fourth.


Meanwhile, Chile has moved up to 5th in the rankings, followed by Brazil, Portugal, Colombia, as well as England in ninth and Austria in tenth.


Mentioning Latvia's group opponents in the World Cup 2018 qualification campaign, the Portugal is ranked 7th, Switzerland is ranked 12th, Hungary is ranked 19th, the Faroe Islands is ranked 94th, while Andorra is ranked 201st.
