Pianist Aurelija Simkus wins Echo Klassik award

Latvian pianist Aurelija Simkus has won the prestigious Echo Klassik award for her second solo album, Bach - Ich Ruf' Zu Dir, released by Germany's RS Produktio, reports LETA.

 

According to a list of award winners posted on the Echo Klassik website, Simkus has won the award in the Newcomer (Piano) category.

 

Chamber orchestra Kremerata Baltica has won the Concert Recording (20th/21st Century Music) award for the album Schostakowitsch: Klavierkonzerte, recorded together with pianist Anna Vinnitskaya.

 

Artemis Quartet, where Latvian violinist Vineta Sareika plays the 1st violin, has won an Echo Klassik award in the Chamber Music Recording (19th Century Music / String Player) category for the album Brahms: Streichquartette 1 & 3.

 

In addition, cellist Sol Gabetta has won the Instrumentalist (Cello) award for the album Vasks: Presence, featuring music by Latvian composer Peteris Vasks.

 

The award ceremony will be in Berlin in Octobe
