Long-standing head of Riga Russian Theatre to resign

Eduards Cehovals, the long-standing head of the Mikhail Chekhov Riga Russian Theatre, has
tendered resignation, Lita Kokale, a
spokeswoman for the Culture Ministry, informed LETA.
Kokale explained that on October 3 Cehovals submitted an application to the
ministry, asking to relieve him of his duties as the theatre’s sole board
member. Cehovals’ term in office ends on November 29.
At present, Cehovals is the only member of the theatre’s board and has been
heading the Mikhail Chekhov Riga Russian Theatre for the past 30 years.
Cehovals marked his 70th birthday this year. He was approved for his last
three-year term in office at the end of 2014.
Considering Cehovals’ decision to quit, the Culture Ministry has announced
a public tender to pick a new head for the Mikhail Chekhov Riga Russian
Theatre.
Candidates for the position can send in their applications by November 3.
