Sevastova through to second round at U.S. Open

Print versionLatvia's second highest-ranked lady tennis player Anastasija Sevastova defeated Croatia's Donna Vekic in the first round of the U.S. Open on Tuesday, informed LETA.
Sevastova is ranked 18th in the WTA rankings at the moment and is seeded 19th for the tournament, while Vekic is currently ranked 41st.
Sevastova has earned 70 WTA ranking points for reaching the second round of the tournament, where she will play Claire Liu (U.S.), who is ranked 158th in the WTA rankings.
So far this season, Sevastova has won 31 matches and lost fifteen matches. Vekic has won 22 matches and suffered defeat in 17 matches.
Last year, Sevastova reached the quarterfinal stage at the U.S. Open.
