The marathon of the Christmas events is to start with the setting of the main Christmas tree in Lithuania at the Cathedral Square on the eve of the First Advent, on Saturday.

This Christmas, called by priest Ricardas Doveika the "hopeful" Christmas in the light of the economically difficult times, will stand out with such events that we have never seen before and maybe will never see again, said Edmundas Zalpys, head of the culture and arts department of Vilnius Municipality, urging not to miss unique opportunities.

According to Tadas Rimdzius, CEO of the agency Concept Events and Media, which is organizing the project "Christmas in the Capital", this year the most important Christmas tree in the country will be decorated with new "clothes" and a huge snowflake will descend on the tree.

The Christmas tree on the Cathedral Square will be lit by Vilnius Mayor and Egle Jurgaityte, who captured the third place in the Youth Eurovision this year.

The Christmas tree at the City Hall Square will be lit in a week and the highest Christmas tree in the Baltic states – the TV Tower – will be lit on December 25.
