Movie theaters in Latvia posted LVL 7 million cash income last year
Cash income of movie theaters in Latvia in 2008, not including revenues from film festivals and special movie programs, totaled LVL 7,000,206, as LETA was informed by the National Film Center's Laura Osleja.
The total cash income, including the amount of money, earned from films festivals and film programs, amounted to LVL 7,037,171.
Last year movie goers purchased a total of 2,339,975 movie tickets, of which 2,299,003 not including festivals and special film programs.
"Parex Plaza" movie theater in Riga had the largest number of spectators in 2008 - 1,805,270. "Balle" in Liepaja placed second with 129,355 spectators, "Riga" in the capital city was third with an audience of 93,813 over the year and was followed by "Cinamon" (Riga) - 79,109 and "Renesanse" (Daugavpils) with 49,847 spectators last year.
In 2008, movie theater in Latvia demonstrated 52 films produced in Latvia, 124 European, 140 U.S. films and 51 films from other countries.
The average movie ticket price in 2008 was LVL 3.30, in 2007 it was LVL 2.79 and LVL 2.46 respectively.
The number of movie theaters in Latvia shrank, compared with 2007. At the end of last year, movies were shown in 28 venues, including 15 movie theaters, whereas in 2007 the numbers were 32 and 14 respectively.
The most viewed movie in Latvia last year was "Journey To The Center Of The Earth 3D", viewed by 75,832 spectators, which made LVL 310,756 cash earnings.
