"New Wave" opens in Jurmala tonight

Print versionThe eighth international contest of young singers of popular music "New Wave 2009" will open tonight in Jurmala's Dzintari with a star-studded concert, informs LETA.
16 vocalists from 12 countries are competing this year, and the contest's first round – world hits – will be held Wednesday night. Latvia's contestant is Aisha (Aija Andrejeva).
Headlining tonight are such luminaries as "Roxette", Filip Kirkorov, Alla Pugachova and Valeriy Leontyev. Latvia's Dons, who wound up in fourth place last year, will also sing.
The contest-festival will continue through August 2.
Latvian President Valdis Zatlers is also scheduled to attend the opening.
